Vincenzo Salvucci is a UNU-WIDER research fellow currently based at the Directorate of Economic and Financial Studies (DEEF) of the Ministry of Economics and Finance in Maputo, Mozambique, as part of the WIDER project "Inclusive growth in Mozambique – scaling-up research and capacity".
He has six years of experience in development economics, with five years of resident experience in Mozambique. His research interests focus on poverty analysis in developing countries. He has explored issues related to poverty, inequality, and child malnutrition, mainly using microdata for Mozambique.

Effects of Food Price Shocks on Child Malnutrition: the Mozambican Experience 2008/2009
In 2007-9, many countries, including Mozambique, experienced a dramatic food and oil price shock. We find that this shock had an adverse effect on child nutritional status in Mozambique. In particular, it appears that wasting and underweight prevalence are lower for children interviewed when inflation was lower and post-harvest
The spike in the inflation rate experienced in the period 2007-2009 combined with normal seasonality is most likely responsible for a worsening in the nutritional status of under-five children in the same period in Mozambique
